Spirits Growth Accelerates In Control States In First Half

After a solid 3.25% gain in 2011, year-to-date spirit sales volume in control states accelerated to 4.6% through the six-month period ending June. The most impressive volume gains came from Irish whiskey (+20.3%), vodka (+6.9%), cordials & liqueurs (+5.9%) and Tequila (+6.2%). All 19 control jurisdictions increased in terms of spirit sales year-to-date, with the largest volume gains coming from Pennsylvania (+6.1% ) and Utah (+6.4%).

The fastest-growing spirits among the top 100 brands by volume year-to-date include Jameson (+19.5%), New Amsterdam vodka (new in 2012), Tito’s Handmade (+58.7%), Cîroc Peach (new in 2012), Cîroc Red Berry (+30.6%), Cîroc Coconut (+36%), Platinum 7X vodka (+19.6%) and Fireball whisky-based cinnamon schnapps (+171%).
