Winebow Expands In Illinois With Vintage Wines Buy

August 6, 2012

New Jersey-based importer and wholesaler Winebow is set to expand in the key Illinois market, agreeing to acquire fellow importer and wholesaler Vintage Wines LLC for an undisclosed sum. Winebow CEO Jon Moramarco said that the combination of Winebow’s existing Illinois operation and that of Vintage Wines—whose portfolio includes top French and domestic offerings—would create “the leading fine wine distributor” in the state. Vintage Wines founder Dennis Styck will stay on as chairman of the combined Illinois operation, which will continue to be known as Vintage Wines and have a staff of 80. The new entity will feature a wine portfolio spanning Argentina, Austria, Chile, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain and the United States. Winebow operates as a wholesaler in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois and Montgomery County, Maryland. It entered Illinois in 2010, operating from a new facility in Chicago. Earlier this year, former majority owners Freeman Spogli & Co. of Los Angeles sold their stake in Winebow to another private equity firm, Dallas-based Brazos.
