Craft Brewing and Distilling News for August 14, 2012
August 14, 2012•North Carolina’s Piedmont Distillers is enjoying impressive growth with its array of moonshine liquors. During the first six months of 2012, Madison-based Piedmont sold over 100,000 six-pack cases (the equivalent of 50,000 nine-liter cases). With growth accelerating as the products’ availability widens around the U.S., sales are on pace to surpass 250,000 six-pack cases by year-end—an increase of more than 200% over 2011. To accommodate this growth, the company recently opened a new distillery in its native Madison, North Carolina. Earlier this month, Piedmont added a 100-proof blackberry expression to its Midnight Moon Fruit Inclusions moonshine range. In addition to its flavored moonshines, Piedmont also produces Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon Original moonshine—named after the NASCAR hall of fame driver, who brought his family recipe to the distiller in 2007—and Catdaddy Spiced Moonshine.
