Vintage Point Launches Ultra-Premium Cabernet Brand, Hypothesis
August 30, 2012Sonoma-based wine marketer Vintage Point is launching a new ultra-premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon brand, Hypothesis ($40 a bottle). Hypothesis is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Hitting national distribution next month, it’s made by Roots Run Deep Winery, led by industry veteran Mark Albrecht, which also produces the Vintage Point-marketed Educated Guess brand. Hypothesis is made via a French-developed pre-fermentation process called flash détente, which Vintage Point says produces increased color and flavor extraction.
The new ultra-premium entry joins a Vintage Point portfolio that also includes Jayson Woodbridge’s Cherry Pie, Hundred Acre and Layer Cake wines, as well as Educated Guess, Garnet Vineyards, Gary Farrell Winery, Goose Ridge Vineyards, Moone-Tsai, Luna Vineyards, BR Cohn and Hidden Ridge, among other brands. Led by Impact “Hot Brand” Layer Cake, Vintage Point had sales of around 600,000 cases last year, focusing on premium-and-above price points.
