•Boca Raton, Florida-based Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery has announced plans to open a new brewery in nearby Oakland Park. The facility—which will be part of the city’s budding Culinary Arts District—is 18,000-square-feet and will house a 30-barrel brewing system. Production at the new brewery is slated to begin in early 2013. Known for a rotating selection of around 110 craft and import beers—including offerings from Sierra Nevada, Oskar Blues and Dogfish Head—Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery also produces its own craft labels at an existing 1.5-barrel facility. Some of the brewer’s own-label offerings include its Funky Buddha Piiti Porter, Hop Gun IPA, Red Dawn Red Ale and Floridian Hefeweizen, among others.
•Craft spirits producer Philadelphia Distilling has released a new flavored whiskey offering, XXX Shine Salted Caramel Whiskey. Rolling out nationwide this month, XXX Shine Salted Caramel is made with American corn and triple-distilled, blending sweet, buttery notes with the flavor of sea salt. The 80-proof offering is priced around $25 a 750-ml. Founded in 2005, Philadelphia Distilling bills itself as the first craft distillery to open in Pennsylvania since Prohibition. In addition to XXX Shine Salted Caramel, the company also produces the Penn 1681 rye vodka, Bluecoat American dry gin and Vieux Carré absinthe brands.
