Gallo Buys Shakers Vodka Trademark

October 25, 2012

E.&J. Gallo has reportedly purchased the trademark for Shakers vodka, the Minnesota-made brand formerly owned by defunct spirits group Infinite Spirits Inc. The sum of the transaction was undisclosed.

The Shakers brand, along with its bottling equipment, packaging materials and patents, was originally put up for auction in June, following Infinite’s filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy early this year. Headquartered in San Francisco, Infinite Spirits had launched the brand in 2003, positioning it as a super-premium American wheat vodka made with locally sourced ingredients. The company later introduced several offshoots, including Shakers Rye, Shakers Rose (a rose-flavored offering) and the limited edition seasonal Shakers Winter.

The Shakers trademark joins a growing stable of spirits brands in the Gallo portfolio, including Shellback rum and Impact “Hot Brands” Familia Camarena Tequila and New Amsterdam, a vodka and gin franchise. In September, Gallo announced that New Amsterdam vodka had already surpassed 1 million cases in annual sales after being on the market less than a year. Details on Gallo’s plans for Shakers were unavailable at press time.
