Glazer’s Thurman Tapped To Head Arizona’s Alliance, While Smith Takes Reverse Path

February 26, 2013

Shawn Thurman, one of Glazer’s key executives, has been tapped to lead Alliance Beverage, the Arizona-based joint distribution venture between Glazer’s and Charmer Sunbelt Group, while Alliance’s chief executive, Bob Smith, will join Glazer’s leadership team. Thurman, who has been Glazer’s executive vice president, marketing, for the past three years, is returning to Alliance—where he worked for more than seven years—as president. Meanwhile, Smith is assuming the newly created post of senior vice president, strategic expansion at Dallas-based Glazer’s, after spending more than two decades as Alliance’s president and CEO. Both appointments are effective April 1, 2013.

Glazer’s has named Mike McLaughlin to replace Thurman. McLaughlin, who also takes on his new position April 1, has been with Glazer’s as senior vice president, Texas, since May 2011. He was previously an executive with Southern Wine & Spirits in the Northwest. In his new role, McLaughlin will have responsibility for Glazer’s performance with its supplier partners across all lines, except Diageo and Moët Hennessy, whose portfolios are managed by a separate team at Glazer’s.

Glazer’s is one of the leading U.S. spirits and wine distributors, with annual revenue of more than $3 billion, while Alliance is Arizona’s leading distributor, with projected sales of more than $400 million in 2013.
