Wine And Spirits Industry Supports Els for Autism FoundationMarch 14, 2013
The 5th annual Els for Autism Charity Pro-Am golf tournament raised $892,000 for the Els for Autism Foundation, an organization founded by Marvin R. Shanken, chairman of M. Shanken Communications and PGA Tour professional Ernie Els and his wife, Liezl. The foundation is raising $30 million to build The Center for Excellence, a school designed for children with autism combined with a research center to cure the disease.
The golf tournament, held Monday, March 11th at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, brought together 66 amateurs and 22 professional golfers, including World No.-1 Rory McIlroy, Els, Lee Westwood, Adam Scott, Keegan Bradley, Luke Donald and Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd, among others. The tournament was won by the team captained by Scott, which included Diageo’s Catalyst unit president Stephen Rust, Nolet Spirits USA president and CEO Bill Eldien and Nolet Spirits USA executive vice president Carl Nolet Jr. The team tallied a score of 58—14 under par.
The wine and spirits industry supports the foundation and the golf tournament. Companies represented included Bacardi, Banfi, Campari USA, Charmer Sunbelt, Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, Diageo, Glazer’s, Moët Hennessy USA, Pernod Ricard, Republic National Distributing, Southern Wine & Spirits and Terlato Wines.
