May 31, 2013•Opici Family Distributing is expanding its Mid-Atlantic wholesaling footprint with the state of Maryland, effective June 1. Brian Lewis, who currently oversees Opici’s distributorships in Connecticut and Washington, D.C., will add the role of general manager of Opici Family Distributing of Maryland. Eoin Connors, formerly of Southern Wine & Spirits of Maryland and Slocum & Sons of Connecticut, will report to Lewis as general sales manager for both Maryland and Washington, D.C., which Opici entered last October. In addition to Connecticut, Maryland and Washington, D.C., Opici also operates as a wholesaler in New Jersey, New York and Florida.
•Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and joint venture partner Marchesi Antinori have named Marcus Notaro as winemaker for California’s Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. Notaro, who will transition to the new role next month, most recently served as winemaker at Col Solare, another Ste. Michelle-Antinori joint venture. Stags Leap currently produces an estate & singlevineyard collection with three limited-production Cabernet Sauvignons—Cask 23, S.L.V. and FAY—and the Arcadia Vineyard Chardonnay, as well as the Napa Valley collection, which includes Karia Chardonnay and Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, among others.
