Whisky Advocate Names Diageo Distiller Of The YearDecember 23, 2013
Whisky Advocate has named Diageo as its Distiller of the Year. The magazine cited the drinks giant’s $1.5 billion, five-year investment in Scotland, the continuing ascendance of the Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky brand in the U.S. and global markets, and significant innovation occurring across its single malt and American whiskey portfolios as ample evidence of Diageo’s ongoing contributions to the global whisky landscape.
Over the weekend, Whisky Advocate also named its Lifetime Achievement winner, honoring Michael Urquhart, managing director of independent whisky bottling firm Gordon & MacPhail. Meanwhile, the magazine’s Lowlands/Campeltown Single Malt of the Year award, announced Saturday, went to Kilkerran Work in Progress 5 Sherry Wood, which is at 46%-abv and retails at $60 a bottle.
Having been unveiled on the Whisky Advocate website one day at a time over the past two weeks, the Whisky Advocate award winners will be featured in full in the magazine’s upcoming Spring 2014 issue.Subscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
