•Cleveland, Ohio’s Great Lakes Brewing Company (GLBC) says it increased shipments in 2013 by 22% to nearly 143,000 barrels, with new limited edition and seasonal offerings—such as Chillwave Double IPA and Rye of the Tiger IPA—in particular finding success. The brewery didn’t expand beyond its current 13 markets last year, focusing instead on filling territory gaps within those states and the District of Columbia. IRI reported GLBC as the number-1 craft brand family in volume and dollar sales in Ohio and number-2 craft family brand in the Great Lakes region. It also named GLBC the number 14 craft brand family in volume and dollar sales in the United States.
•Hawaiian craft brewery Maui Brewing Company has partnered with San Diego, California’s Stone Brewing Company for the creation of new craft beer distributor Maui-Stone Craft Beverages. With the mission of bringing a greater variety of craft beers to Maui, the new distributor will offer both breweries’ beers in addition to a portfolio of other craft brands from Colorado and California. Maui Brewing Co. has been using Stone Brewing’s Stone Distributing Co. since 2008 to sell its ales and lagers in Southern California. Shipments of bottles and kegs will begin arriving at a 16,000-square-foot distribution center in Maui from San Diego by way of refrigerated containers around April, including such craft beer offerings as AleSmith Brewing Co., Avery Brewing Co., Bear Republic Brewing Co. and Oskar Blues Brewery, among others.Subscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
