The Wine Group has tapped New Orleans-based Sazerac Co. to take over global marketing and distribution for three of the California company’s spirits brands.Under the new partnership, Sazerac subsidiary Gemini Spirits and Wine will handle marketing and distribution for The Wine Group’s Concannon Irish whiskey and Big House Bourbon brands, while Sazerac Company Inc. will take over marketing for Piedra Azul Tequila. The Wine Group first entered the spirits category with Cupcake vodka—an extension of its popular Cupcake wine range—in 2011. Neither Cupcake vodka nor another wine brand spinoff—Flipflop rum—are included in the deal with Sazerac.

Diageo has been unveiled as the official wine and specialty spirits provider for the 86th Oscars and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Governors Ball. Featured offerings will include wines from Diageo’s Sterling Vineyards—including the winery’s limited production 2010 Reserve Chardonnay and 2008 Reserve Cabernet—as well as cocktails made with Cîroc vodka and Baileys Irish Cream. Guests will also be invited to enjoy Johnnie Walker Platinum and Johnnie Walker Blue. Meanwhile, the wine and spirits lineup will be accompanied by a menu of more than 50 hors d’oeuvres, created by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. The 86th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2 in Hollywood.
