March 10, 2014•Craft Brew Alliance reported continued momentum in 2013 with 11% depletion growth, as well as roughly $9.9 million in capital expenditures and plans for expanding its distribution footprint in the Southeast and internationally. The Portland, Oregon-based company’s brands—including Kona Brewing, Redhook Ale Brewery, Omission, Square Mile Cider Company and Widmer Brothers—contributed to CBA’s third consecutive quarter of double-digit depletion growth in the fourth quarter. Net sales across the portfolio rose 6%, while owned brand shipments grew nearly 8% in the fourth quarter. CBA has partnered with Blues City Brewery, based in Memphis, Tennessee, to bring brewing capability closer to the East region and internationally. The company expects depletion growth for 2014 to be between 7% and 11% and capital expenditure to range from $15 million to $20 million as its continues to invest in capacity and efficiency improvements, as well as restaurant and retail operations.
•Atlanta-based sales and marketing group Crafted Brands has added the spirits labels of craft spirits importer Altamar Brands to its portfolio in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Altamar’s brands include Tequila Ocho, Right Gin, Kubler Absinthe, Leopold Raffin Cognac and Pierde Almas Mezcal among others. Crafted Brands, which focuses on small production wine and spirits labels, already represented the Altamar portfolio in Georgia.
