Bidding For Whyte & Mackay Approaches Final Round

March 26, 2014

Fresh reports say Campari, ThaiBev and private equity groups Lion Capital and KKR & Co. are among the final bidders for Whyte & Mackay, the Scotch whisky business of Diageo-controlled United Spirits Ltd. (USL).

Citing unnamed sources, Bloomberg reports that private equity groups including Lion Capital and KKR & Co., as well as an unnamed Russian company, are also among the final round of suitors for Whyte & Mackay, which the sources say could sell for around £400 million ($660m).

Earlier reports had also linked Stolichnaya owner SPI Group with a possible play for the distiller. The final round of bids for Whyte & Mackay is said to be due April 17, with Lion Capital thought to have lodged the highest bid to date.
