Wine Spectator: Pontet-Canet Kicks Off Bordeaux Futures Campaign EarlyMarch 28, 2014
Wine Spectator reports that Bordeaux’s 2013 en primeur campaign got off to an unexpected start at 8 a.m. local time March 26, when fifth growth Château Pontet-Canet released its 2013 futures for sale. Most merchants and their clients have not tasted the wine yet. “It was definitely a surprise,” said négociant Yann Schÿler, CEO of Maison Schröder & Schÿler, who said he will not take a position until he has tasted the wine. The suggested resale price was $93 a bottle, including négociant markup. That’s identical to the 2012 price.
The Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux (UGC) tastings begin next week—that will be the first chance for most journalists and trade members to taste the 2013 samples. Wine Spectator senior editor James Molesworth is currently conducting tastings in the region—you can find his detailed 2013 Bordeaux Barrel Tastings at WineSpectator.com.Subscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
