Craft Brewing and Distilling News for April 15, 2014

April 15, 2014

•California’s Monument Valley Distillers has released Duke Kentucky Straight Bourbon, a new craft whiskey named for film star John Wayne. Inspired by a 1960s Bourbon bottling from John Wayne’s private collection, Duke Bourbon ($34.99 a bottle) is a small-batch whiskey aged in heavily charred American oak barrels. Rolling out into select markets this May, the new entry marks the second offering in Monument Valley’s Duke range, joining the limited edition Duke Special Reserve Brandy. Monument Valley is an artisanal distillery founded by Ethan Wayne—son of John Wayne—and Hundred Acre vintners Jayson Woodbridge and Chris Radomski, as well as partner Richard Howell.

•The Philadelphia area’s Victory Brewing Company has released its popular Summer Love Ale for the fourth year. The 5.2%-abv beer features European hops, German malts and is finished with American whole flower hops. Summer Love will be available through August in retail shops and bars along the East Coast.
