Ohio-Based Grocery Chain Heinen’s Expanding In Chicago Market
April 24, 2014Cleveland, Ohio-based grocery chain Heinen’s Fine Foods is expanding in the greater Chicago market with the launch of a 40,000-square-foot location in Glenville, Illinois on May 7. The company will also open two more Chicago-area units—in Bannockburn and Lake Bluff—by year-end.
The new stores will bring Heinen’s total to four locations in the Chicago-area market. The company first entered Illinois in August 2012 with a location in Barrington. With these latest moves, Heinen’s is now committing to a market where it can sell spirits—something it cannot do in its home state of Ohio.
Founded in 1929, Heinen’s operates 17 stores in the Cleveland suburbs, with a downtown Cleveland location set to open in the fall. The new Cleveland and Illinois stores will bring the company’s total number of units to 22 by year-end. Heinen’s annual sales revenue is reportedly $460 million.
