Craft Brewing and Distilling News for May 5, 2014

May 5, 2014

•The Florida House of Representatives’ legislative session ran out Friday without the body voting on a controversial bill passed by the state Senate that would have authorized 64-ounce growler fills but also added new restrictions on some craft brewers. The Florida Senate bill, passed last Tuesday, prohibited producers brewing more than 1,000 barrels (2,000 kegs) from selling more than 20% of their canned and bottled beer directly to consumers instead of through a distributor. It also limited the sale of kegs to one per person per day. Craft brewers, along with some lawmakers, worry that such restrictions, if signed into law, could stifle the state’s growing craft beer industry.
