California’s TGIC Targets Rise To Million-Case Mark Within Two Years

California-based importer and marketer TGIC Global Fine Wine Company is aiming to reach the 1-million-case mark within the next 24 months. With a range spanning wines from Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy and California, TGIC is known mainly for its South American lineup, which plays primarily within the $10-and-up range. Chile’s Montes has emerged as a key brand within the portfolio, rising 50% to 180,000 cases in 2013, according to Impact Databank.

Company founder and CEO Alex Guarachi says the recent addition of several wine industry veterans to the sales team and a realignment of the company’s distributor footprint have positioned the TGIC stable for growth. After a 12-month revamp, TGIC now counts Young’s Market Co., Wirtz Beverage, Charmer-Sunbelt and RNDC among its key distributor partners.

TGIC has expanded its focus in recent years to include more premium and domestic offerings. In 2007, the group launched Guarachi Family Wines, an upscale California brand offering Napa Cabernet Sauvignon and Sonoma Pinot Noir. This year the company followed with two new wines, The Seducer (California) and Nobilissima (Italy), both of which retail below $15 and are targeted toward Millennials. Other wineries in the portfolio include Argentina’s Bodega Norton, Kaiken, Pascual Toso, Perdriel and Che Gaucho; Chile’s Santa Ema; and Spain’s Castillo de Monseran.
