Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Sees U.S. Sales Surge 19%

Italy’s Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi says it enjoyed strong growth in the U.S. market in 2013, with shipment value jumping 19%. The luxury producer’s Nipozzano, CastelGiocondo and Ornellaia wines continue to be its main growth drivers in the U.S., the company tells SND.

Giovanni Geddes Filicaja, Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi’s CEO, said the group registered “a steady increase in sales throughout the year,” in the U.S. market, where its wines are imported by Folio Fine Wine Partners.

Globally, Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi’s wine sales rose 4.3% last year—on volume of about 10 million bottles—with the U.S. accounting for around 15% of its wine revenue. The company’s total sales, which registered €84 million ($114m) last year, were roughly flat owing to the closing of two wine shops in Italy. Exports now account for 68% of group revenue, with Frescobaldi’s higher-end wines driving the growth in shipments abroad.

“In 2013, we invested $10 million to strengthen and modernize the vineyards and production facilities,” Geddes added. “We are also investing in long-term activities in order to further promote and strengthen our high-end brands: Frescobaldi, Luce della Vite, Ornellaia and Attems.”
