•Rhône wine exports enjoyed 8% value growth to €459 million ($626m) last year on a volume rise of 5% to 11.4 million cases, according to French Customs and the Inter Rhône trade group. Growth was driven by shipments to the U.S., where volume rose 10% to 1.6 million cases and value hit €86 million ($117m), and Belgium, where shipments jumped 12% to 2.3 million cases. Strong results in those countries, as well as Scandinavia and the Netherlands, offset sharp declines in China and Japan, where Rhône shipments fell 33% and 14% respectively by volume.

•Brown-Forman’s El Jimador Tequila has unveiled limited-edition bottle series coinciding with its sponsorships of the U.S. National Soccer Team and the Mexican National Soccer Team’s U.S. Tour. As the sport gears up for its 2014 World Cup event, El Jimador is releasing limited-edition packaging for its Blanco and Reposado variants, which are illustrated with soccer-themed elements and the colors of the U.S. and Mexican teams. The special bottles are part of El Jimador’s 360-degree “Take Home the Spirit” program, which also includes social media, in-store and sweepstakes components. The El Jimador brand family’s global depletions slipped 11% to 6 million nine-liter cases in the year through April, as its New Mix RTD struggled in Mexico. In the U.S., El Jimador’s net sales rose 9% organically during the same period.
