July 1, 2014•Seattle’s Westland Distillery has partnered with Anchor Distilling to introduce its flagship Westland American single malt whiskey nationwide. Produced using Scotch-style methods, Westland American single malt is made with Pacific Northwest barley and matured in new American oak casks. The 46%-abv entry, which has a production of 1,500 casks annually, is priced at around $79.99 a 750-ml. Westland American single malt whiskey is joined in the Anchor Distilling portfolio by The Glenrothes, BenRiach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh Scotches, as well as the Old Potrero and Hirsch American whiskey brands, among others.
•Beginning today, United Airlines will offer Goose Island’s 312 Urban Wheat Ale on flights worldwide as well as at United Clubs in the continental U.S. The craft ale, which is named after Goose Island hometown Chicago’s primary area code, features Cascade hops and a crisp, fruity flavor, according to the company. 312 Urban Wheat Ale will be complimentary for premium-cabin guests, $7.99 in economy class and $3 in United Clubs.
•Stone Brewing has collaborated with fellow California craft beer producers Beachwood Brewing and Heretic Brewing on a new offering, Unapologetic IPA. The new, hop-forward brew is 8.8% abv and made with a hop bill that includes Magnum, Chinook, Azacca, Belma and experimental hops HBC 342 and Hopsteiner 06300. Starting this week, Unapologetic is making its way to around 40 U.S. markets in 22-ounce bottles and on draft.
•Seattle-based 2bar Spirits says it plans to double its production capacity to keep up with rising demand across its home state of Washington. 2Bar intends to upgrade its brew house, stills and equipment, which it says will boost output of its vodka and moonshine labels and increase availability to its 250 distribution locations. The company says it also plans to expand production of its popular Bourbon offering.
