•Lakewood, New York-based Southern Tier Brewing Co. has sold a portion of its business to investment firm Ulysses Management. Details of the transaction were not disclosed. According to Southern Tier, the deal will help fund “expansion of the brewery, new distribution support, sales force growth and enhanced branding and marketing initiatives.” Concurrently, Southern Tier has appointed John Coleman as CEO, effective September 22. A 25-year beer industry veteran, Coleman previously served as president and COO of Pabst Brewing Co. Southern Tier, which has also announced plans to open a sister craft distillery next year, expects sales to rise 40% this year, to more than 100,000 barrels.
•Breese, Illinois’ Excel Brewing Company is unveiling five new beers and a returning seasonal Oktoberfest. The launches include Lefty Lager, an all-malt Munich-style Helles lager; Eastside IPA, a West Coast-style India Pale Ale; Flash Bang, an unfiltered American wheat beer; Bose Roggen, a black lager with 50% rye malt and chocolate rye; South Stout, featuring roasted barley and dark caramel malts and the limited edition Oktoberfest, a traditional German-style Märzen. The beers are available on draft and in bottles at select on-premise locations in St. Louis.
