•According to the latest report from Chicago-based marketing firm IRI, Sazerac’s Fireball whiskey liqueur now ranks 10th among all spirit brands by volume, based on data from the 52-week period ending November 30th. A year ago, Fireball was in 21st place by volume. Fireball surged 137% in the 52 weeks, to over 500,000 nine-liter cases in IRI channels. Tito’s vodka, Bulleit Bourbon and New Amsterdam vodka also performed well over the past year. Smirnoff vodka remains the largest-selling spirits brand, followed by Bacardi rum, Captain Morgan and Svedka vodka. Total distilled spirits volume (excluding pre-mixed cocktails) rose a modest 2.3% the past 52 weeks according to IRI, whose channels account for 15% of total US distilled spirits market volume, as measured by Impact Databank.
•Delicato Family Vineyards’ Bota Box wine brand is entering the 1.5-liter segment with the launch of Bota Brick. Packaged using the same recyclable, bag-in-box format as Bota Box’s original 3-liter wines, Bota Brick is positioned as an alternative to traditional 1.5-liter glass bottled wines, and claims to keep wine fresh longer after opening. The new lineup, which features Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and RedVolution red blend expressions, is currently available nationwide, priced at $12.99 each. Bota Brick joins Bota Box’s flagship 3-liter range, as well as the brand’s 500-ml. Tetra Pak entries. An Impact “Hot Brand,” Bota Box was up 14% last year to 2.6 million cases, making it DFV’s largest brand.
•Wilson Daniels has been appointed the exclusive U.S. importer of Italy’s Tenuta Sette Cieli, located in southern Tuscany’s Maremma region. From its 173-hectare (427-acre) estate—which is planted with 42 acres of stone-terraced vineyards—Tenuta Sette Cieli offers four wines: Yantra, a Toscana IGT that is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot; NOI4, a Bolgheri DOC that is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc; Indaco, a Toscana IGT that is 40% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot; and Scipio, a Toscana IGT that’s 100% Cabernet Franc.
