Craft Brewing and Distilling News for December 15, 2014

•Kansas City, Missouri-based Boulevard Brewing is set to enter Ohio via a new partnership with Cincinnati’s Cavalier Distributing. Starting next month, Boulevard’s Pop-Up IPA, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer, Unfiltered Wheat Beer and specialty Smokestack Series labels will be available throughout the state, both on- and off-premise. Additional seasonals and limited edition offerings are slated to follow later in the year. Boulevard’s Ohio debut follows the brewer’s entry into several new markets—including South Carolina, Florida, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania—in recent months, bringing its total footprint to around 30 states and Washington, D.C.

•Oregon’s Widmer Brothers Brewing and Deschutes Brewery have released collaborative beer AltBitter, inspired by two of the first recipes from each brewery. The offering is a blend of Portland-based Deschutes’ Bachelor Bitter and Widmer Brothers’ Altbier and is part of the latter’s yearlong 30th Anniversary Collaborative Series. Imperial versions of the beers were brewed and aged separately in rye whiskey barrels for eight months. The 9.5%-abv collaboration is made from two-thirds of the barrel-aged version of each and one-third non-barrel-aged beer. Bend-based Widmer Brothers also collaborated with Boneyard Beer, Breakside Brewery, 10 Barrel Brewing and Gigantic Brewing for its 30th Anniversary series.

•Longmont, Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery has added Pinner Throwback IPA to its year-round lineup of craft beers in 12-ounce cans and on draft. The 4.9%-abv IPA will be initally available in Oskar Blues’ home state and North Carolina, where it operates a second brewery in Brevard. The dry-hopped brew has the lowest abv among year-round offerings from Oskar Blues. In February, Pinner will join the Canundrum mixed pack of the company’s canned offerings in national distribution. Other beers in the pack are Dale’s Pale Ale, Mama’s Little Yella Pils and Old Chub Scotch Ale.

•Fort Collins, Colorado-based Odell Brewing is re-releasing its Runoff Red IPA winter/spring seasonal. Rolling out in late December and early January, Runoff Red is a dry-hopped IPA made with a variety of American hops and, according to the company, characterized by notes of citrus, grapefruit and pine hop. The returning entry will be available across Odell’s 11-state footprint as a seasonal six-pack, as well as in select markets as part of the brewer’s Winter-Spring Montage Variety Pack. A seasonal 12-pack, the Winter-Spring Montage lineup will also include Odell’s 90 Shilling, IPA and Wolf Picker Experimental Pale Ale labels.
