Miller Lite Sees First Quarterly Volume Advance Since 2007

SABMiller posted a 1% decline in revenue across its North American business for the three months through December, its fiscal third quarter. MillerCoors, the company’s joint venture with Molson Coors, saw sales to retailers slip 1.7%, although Miller Lite (up by low single digits) enjoyed its first quarter of volume growth since 2007, benefiting from the return of its original packaging.

Coors Light volume decreased by low single digits during the period, while the brewer’s above-premium stable rose by low single digits, led by the Redd’s franchise and innovations like Miller Fortune and Smith & Forge Hard Cider. Blue Moon and the Leinenkugel’s portfolio, together, were stable, SABMiller said. Overall, SABMiller’s North American volumes were down 2% in the nine months through December, while revenue increased 1%.

In other company news, Miller Coors will introduce a new Blue Moon White IPA nationally on April 1. The newcomer is 5.9%-abv and billed as “part American IPA and part Belgian-style White.”
