Craft Brewing and Distilling News for January 26, 2015

January 26, 2015

•Atlanta, Georgia’s SweetWater Brewing Company is launching in the Maryland and Texas markets next month, following last year’s entry into five new markets. The craft brewery has partnered with Silver Eagle Distributing to cover the Houston and San Antonio metro areas in Texas and Kelly Distributing, Wantz Distributing, Guy Distributing, Mitchell Beverages, Bob Hall Distributing and Eastern Shore Distributing for markets across Maryland. Recent upgrades to production capacity, the packaged beer conditioning process and climate-controlled warehouses will allow SweetWater to further grow its geographic reach in the year ahead. The brewery reported a 33% increase in volume to 192,500 barrels in 2014 and has said it is planning to move more of its craft offerings to cans.

•Athens, Georgia-based Terrapin Beer Company has released its Seasonal Sessions Mosaic Red Rye IPA in 12-ounce cans, marking a new direction in which the brewery will can all four of the seasonal brews in the series. Mosaic Red Rye IPA (6.3% abv) is brewed with 100% Mosaic hops and features label art designed by Chris Pinkerton of Mackerel Graphics. It is now available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans and 1/6 BBL kegs through the brewery’s distribution footprint. In addition to its Seasonal Sessions line, Terrapin, which is minority-owned by MillerCoors, markets a year-round lineup of six beers, as well as the Monster Beer Tour collection of four high-gravity selections, and the Side Project series of one-time releases.

•Arizona’s SanTan Brewing Co. is relaunching its Mr. Pineapple Wheat Beer seasonal this February. Made with Columbus hops and 2-Row, White Wheat, Caramel and Munich malts, the 5%-abv entry is a play on a traditional German wheat ale, with fresh pineapple added during primary fermentation. The tropical-inspired brew will be available in cans and on draft throughout Arizona, Southern California and Texas starting next month. Mr. Pineapple joins SanTan’s Oktoberfest Lager and Sex Panther in the brewer’s seasonal portfolio.
