Craft Beer Exports Show Strong Growth

March 25, 2015

Craft beer isn’t only growing quickly in the U.S. market. The segment’s export business is also rising fast, according to the Brewers Association (BA), which reports that craft beer exports rose by 35.7% to more than 383,000 barrels in 2014. On the value side, craft beer exports brought in just under $100 million. Canada is by far craft beer’s top export market, accounting for 53% of all exports. Sweden ranks second (12% of exports), the U.K. third (10.7%), Australia fourth (5.1%) and South Korea fifth (3.4%). Craft beer exports are also thriving in Brazil, where they advanced by more than 60% off of a small base last year. The BA’s Export Development Program estimates that there are now about 80 small and independent U.S. brewers exporting their beers.
