Bacardi Confirms Stake In Artisan Scotch Player Compass Box
April 1, 2015Just two days after entering the Bourbon category with its acquisition of Angel’s Envy, Bacardi Ltd. has confirmed another investment in the whisk(e)y space. The Bermuda-based drinks giant tells SND it secured a minority stake in London-based Compass Box Whisky Company last August. Bacardi added that, as part of the deal, it will act as a long-term supplier to Compass Box.
Compass Box’s brands include a range of blended Scotches under the Great King Street label, as well as a portfolio of specialty whiskies including Asyla, Oak Cross, Spice Tree, The Peat Monster and Hedonism. The company was formed in 2000 by John Glaser, a former Johnnie Walker marketing director, and Bacardi told SND that Glaser will continue to run Compass Box as a standalone company.
The stake in Compass Box augments Bacardi’s presence in Scotch whisky, which already includes Dewar’s, Aberfeldy, Craigellachie, William Lawson’s, Glen Deveron and Royal Brackla.
