Beam Suntory Sees North America Sales Rise, Preps New Whisky Offering

May 12, 2015

Beam Suntory reported a strong performance in North America during its fiscal first quarter, ended in March, with growth led by its stable of whiskies, including Maker’s Mark and Canadian Club. Knob Creek, Basil Hayden’s, Hibiki and Laphroaig also posted standout gains for the group, with each rising by double-digits. Overall, parent group Suntory Holdings’ spirits business more than doubled from the same quarter a year ago, reflecting last year’s acquisition of Beam Inc.

In other company news, Beam Suntory is planning to launch a new whisky under its Hibiki brand in the U.S. later this year, called Japanese Harmony. Suntory Holdings has made it known it sees ample opportunity to expand the presence of its Japanese whisky brands—which also include Yamazaki and Hakushu—in the States. Meanwhile, the company is reportedly exploring a sale of its Louis Royer Cognac business; with its acquisition of Beam, Suntory gained the far larger Courvoisier brand.
