•Duckhorn Wine Company has acquired Three Palms Vineyard, located in Napa Valley and renowned for the quality of its Merlot. Spanning 83 acres (with 73 under vine and 50 planted to Merlot), Three Palms has been a grape source for Duckhorn dating back 37 years, and has an average vine age of roughly 20 years. Now it will be “the crown jewel” of Duckhorn’s seven-vineyard, 223-acre estate program, according to Duckhorn president and CEO Alex Ryan. The sellers were Sloan and John Upton—who have owned Three Palms since 1967—and the price was undisclosed. Duckhorn has been purchasing all of Three Palms’ production since 2011.

•Illinois-based importer and marketer Winesellers Ltd. is set to launch a trio of French hard cider brands in the U.S. Starting this month, Winesellers will introduce a Cidre Fermier Brut ($11) and Cidre AOP Pays d’Auge ($13) from Manoir de Grandouet, and a Brut Cidre de Bretagne ($9) and Organic Cidre ($10) from Le Brun nationwide. Additionally, Domaine de la Minotiere’s Cidre Fermier Brut and Cidre Fermier Doux (both $12) will be available via select wholesalers. The entries mark Winesellers Ltd.’s first hard cider offerings.

•Following yesterday’s announcement that the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America have taken a minority stake in Drizly, the alcohol delivery provider has boosted its presence in Southern California with entry into the Orange County market. Drizly has partnered with retailer Hi-Time Wine Cellars for delivery coverage in Balboa Peninsula, Corona Del Mar, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Newport Beach and Newport Coast. LDA consumers in those markets can use Drizly’s website or mobile app to access Hi-Time’s inventory and receive orders in less than an hour.

•Don Sebastiani & Sons has promoted Andrea Staby to director of marketing. Staby was previously a brand manager at the company, which she joined last year after an eight-year tenure as a marketing manager at Trinchero Family Estates. In her new role, Staby will oversee all design, creative, marketing, trade promotions and new products at Don & Sons.
