Gallo Makes Major Napa Valley Vineyard Buy

May 20, 2015

E&J Gallo has bolstered its presence in Napa Valley with the acquisition of 642 acres of land in the Pope Valley area, including 258 acres of vineyards. Gallo’s new property, acquired from the Komes and Garvey families (owners of Flora Springs Winery & Vineyards) includes Cypress Ranch and a portion of the Palisades Vineyard. Planted with a variety of red wine grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Malbec, the property is situated adjacent to Sun Lake Vineyard, which is farmed by Gallo and includes an additional 100 planted acres. The purchase price was undisclosed.

The Napa deal follows Gallo’s March acquisition of Russian River Valley’s J Vineyards and Winery, as well as its purchase of 500 acres in Solano County last year. Roger Nabedian, vice president and general manager of Gallo’s Premium Wine division, said the addition of Cypress Ranch and Palisades Vineyard will be “key to our growth of luxury wines.”
