•Lagunitas Brewing Company is planning to open a third brewery, located in Azusa, California. The 178,000-square-foot Southern California facility, which is expected to be operational by early 2017, will have an initial capacity of about 420,000 barrels, with an eventual capacity of 1 million barrels. The new project follows Lagunitas’s opening of a 300,000-square-foot facility in Chicago last year that also has a maximum capacity of 1 million barrels. Petaluma, California-based Lagunitas’ year-round lineup includes Dogtown Pale, Czech Style Pils, Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’, as well as its IPA, which earned 2014 Impact “Hot Brand” honors on 51% growth to 4.4 million (2.25-gallon) cases.
•Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Founders Brewing Company is releasing Redankulous Imperial Red IPA in late August as the 13th installment of its Backstage Series. The 9.5%-abv features sweet notes from Caramalt and roasted barley, as well as spice and tropical notes from Chinook, Mosaic and Simcoe hops, the company says. Similar to other experimental Backstage offerings, Redankulous will be packaged in 750-ml. bottles for about $9.99 and sold in limited quantities across Founders’ distribution footprint.
