Ron Rubin Joins The Sponsors For Sonoma State’s Wine Spectator Learning CenterJuly 16, 2015
Ron Rubin, founder of Sonoma winemaker The Rubin Family of Wines, has joined the list of supporters for the Wine Spectator Learning Center (WSLC), the future home of the Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University. Rubin’s pledge, one of the largest gifts of the campaign to date, will be used to build the Ron Rubin Student Commons, where students will be able to meet and collaborate between classes and guests can learn about the Wine Business Institute. Rubin, who has sat on the Wine Business Institute’s board of directors since 2012, said, “This Learning Center is essential for creating the wine industry’s future leaders.”
Construction on the new Wine Spectator Learning Center is slated to begin next year and its doors will open for classes in early 2017. To date, $5.8 million has been committed to the project. When construction is complete the total cost of the WSLC is expected to be $9.1 million. Other committed sponsors include the Wine Spectator Scholarship Foundation ($3 million), American AgCredit, Gerret and Tatiana Copeland of Bouchaine Vineyards, Gary Heck of Korbel, Charles Merinoff of Charmer-Sunbelt, Fred Pierce of Pierce Education Properties and Chris Underwood of Young’s Market Companies. Additional donors will be announced in the coming months.
