Cognac Category Shows Strong Rise In Year Through July
August 28, 2015Cognac continues to post solid gains in the U.S. market, with 63 million bottles imported in the 12 months through July, according to the BNIC. Overall, shipments of Cognac to North America grew 16% by volume and 32% by value during the period, with the U.S. leading the way. According to Impact Databank, Cognac reached a new high of 4 million cases on 8% growth in the U.S. in 2014, accelerating markedly from the previous year. The upscale category dipped significantly during the Great Recession, but has now outstripped its pre-downturn high-water mark. Globally, Cognac exports rose 5.9% to 165 million bottles and 9.4% to €2.4 billion ($2.75b) in the 12 months through July.
