November 12, 2015•McCormick Distilling Co. has acquired Broker’s Gin Ltd., producer of the upscale Broker’s London Dry Gin brand. Created by brothers Martin and Andy Dawson in the late 1990s, Broker’s is produced in a 200-year-old gin distillery in Birmingham, England. The Weston, Missouri-based McCormick sells more than 3 million cases of spirits annually, according to Impact Databank, with most of its business at the sub-premium end. In recent years, though, the company has made a concerted effort to expand its premium portfolio, particularly with its 360 Vodka, which sells around 135,000 cases annually.
•San Francisco’s Speakeasy Ales & Lagers is bringing back its Scarface Imperial Stout with the re-launch of its original recipe and the debut of a special barrel-aged edition. The original version of Scarface Imperial Stout is made with a blend of grains and Columbus and Magnum hops, while the Barrel-Aged Scarface Imperial Stout is matured for over a year in Bourbon barrels, and can be consumed immediately or cellared for several years. Both 9.5%-abv entries will be sold across a 13-market footprint by the end of November, available in 22-ounce bottles and on draft.
