December 10, 2015•Whisky Advocate has named Blue Hanger 11th Limited Release as its Blended/Blended Malt Scotch Whisky of the Year. Blue Hanger 11th is 45.6% abv and retails at £89 ($135) a bottle. Whisky Advocate is announcing its annual award winners one day at a time on its blog, culminating with the naming of a Lifetime Achievement honoree on December 15 and the Distiller of the Year announcement on December 16.
•Importer MundoVino, part of The Winebow Group, has added several new Spanish and Portuguese wines to its lineup. Spanish additions include Benjamín Romeo’s Bodega Contador (La Rioja) and Vins del Massis (DO Cataluña); La Guita (DO Manzanilla Sanlúcar de Barrameda); and Vinos Valtuille Pago de Valdoneje (DO Bierzo). Meanwhile, Quinta de Chocapalha (VR Lisboa), M.O.B. (DOC Dão) and Quinta do Monte Xisto (DOC Douro) have joined MundoVino’s Portuguese portfolio. MundoVino’s stable spans Argentina, Chile, Spain, Portugal and others.
•Pura Vida Tequila has inked a new sales agreement with Blackheath Beverage Group. The deal will bring the Pura Vida range—which includes Silver, Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo, as well as Naranja orange liqueur (40% abv)—into national distribution from a current limited base.
•Luxco’s Saint Brendan’s Irish Cream liqueur has extended its lineup with two new limited edition seasonals—Salted Caramel and Peppermint Bark. The new releases, which mark Saint Brendan’s first-ever flavor offshoots, will be available throughout the holiday season, retailing at $14.99 a 750-ml. Saint Brendan’s is the U.S. market’s fifth-leading cream liqueur brand and was flat last year at around 145,000 cases, according to Impact Databank.
