Pernod Ricard Returns To Growth In U.S. Market

February 11, 2016

After posting flat sales in the U.S. market in its latest full fiscal year, Pernod Ricard enjoyed a return to forward progress in the six months through December, its fiscal first half. The French drinks giant said Jameson continued to buoy its U.S. sales during the period, with the Irish whiskey brand up 24% in Nielsen channels. Absolut vodka, while down 1% in value terms, is showing signs of progress, Pernod noted, with new packaging recently hitting the market and a fresh campaign to be unveiled in the first half of this year. Among Pernod’s other key brands, Olmeca Altos and Avion are driving gains in Tequila, while Martell Cognac is growing double-digits and Absolut Elyx is steadily expanding.

Globally, Pernod’s sales grew 3% to €4.96 billion ($5.6b) in its first half, with double-digit advances across India, Africa/Middle East and Australia, as well as 1% growth in Europe, offsetting a 2% decline in China.

As SND reported earlier this morning, Paul Duffy, currently chairman and CEO of the Absolut Co., is returning to the U.S. to become chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard North America and CEO of Pernod Ricard USA on July 1.
