Washington’s Charles Smith Wines Debuts Line Of Italian Varietals

February 12, 2016

Washington vintner Charles Smith is gearing up for next month’s launch of Casa Smith, a small-lot, single-vineyard collection of classic Italian varietal wines grown in eastern Washington. Casa Smith includes a Jack’s Barbera ($35), Cerva Barbera ($20), Cinghiale Sangiovese ($20) and Porcospino Primitivo ($20). Charles Smith Wines, which sells approximately 750,000 cases annually, also includes its eponymous brand, as well as K Vintners, ViNO, Secco Italian Bubbles, Wines of Substance, Sixto and Charles & Charles, a collaboration with Charles Bieler marketed by Trinchero Family Estates. “Our number-one seller is Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling,” Smith tells SND, adding that the K Vintners range is showing strong growth. Founded in Walla Walla in 2006, last year the company opened Charles Smith Wines Jet City, a 32,000-square-foot urban winery in the Georgetown district of Seattle.
