•Rhode Island’s Newport Distilling Company is releasing a new over-proof unaged white rum, Widows Walk. Created with blackstrap molasses in a single pot still, Widows Walk (67.5% abv) is geared toward usage in cocktails. It can currently be found in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Illinois, retailing at $35 a 1-liter. Newport Distilling also makes Thomas Tew Single Barrel Rum.

•Paso Robles, California-based Firestone Walker Brewing Company is launching Luponic Distortion, a new rotating series of beers featuring experimental hops. Rotating about every 90 days, the releases will showcase particular hop varieties by maintaining the same base beer but with changing hop blends. The first Luponic Distortion brew, Revolution No. 001 (5.9% abv), will roll out in March in cans, bottles and on draft, followed by Revolution No. 002, with more to follow. Firestone Walker merged with Duvel Moortgat USA last summer, to form a combined entity with volume of around 500,000 barrels.
