Craft Brewing and Distilling News for February 25, 2016

February 25, 2016

After losing ground in the fourth quarter of 2015 following years of explosive growth, Boston Beer Co.’s Angry Orchard is launching a new Orchard’s Edge series of aged ciders, including entries called Knotty Pear and The Old Fashioned. The collection will feature fruits other than apples as well as spices in the ciders, which are aged on American oak. Orchard’s Edge Knotty Pear (6.5% abv) is made with culinary pears like Bartlett, Doyenne de Comice, Bosc and D’Anjou in addition to U.S.-grown apples, while The Old Fashioned (6.5% abv) is a blend of U.S. apples like Gala and Fuji that is aged on charred oak Bourbon barrel staves with dried tart cherries and California navel orange peel. Orchard’s Edge will be available year-round in six-packs for about $10.99, as well as on draft at select on-premise locations beginning this spring.
