Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits Names Commercial Team

Southern Wine & Spirits and Glazer’s have announced a series of appointments that will constitute the combined entity’s commercial leadership team following their merger. Mel Dick will lead the wine unit as SVP and president. Steve Slater will report to Dick as EVP, general manager, wine division.

All of the following will report to Brad Vassar, Southern Glazer’s EVP and COO. Gerald Rivero, Jr. will continue as EVP, managing director, Coastal-Pacific Wine & Spirits, overseeing Diageo and Moët Hennessy brands, and add Glazer’s Diageo and MHUSA business to his purview. In total he’ll lead Diageo/MHUSA efforts in 39 states.

Meanwhile, John Trainer will handle Southern Glazer’s Pernod Ricard business across 36 states as EVP, managing director, American-Liberty Spirits & Wine. Steve Taylor will become EVP, managing director, Constellation portfolio, covering 17 states, and Tony Truzzolino will become EVP, Beam Suntory portfolio, which Southern Glazer’s will distribute in 37 states. Trainer, Taylor and Truzzolino currently lead those same respective units within SWS. As previously announced, Glazer’s Steve Cohen will helm Southern Glazer’s Transatlantic Spirits division, which will sell Bacardi USA’s lineup in 44 states, Canada and the U.S.V.I.

Other appointments include Southern executives Ray Lombard and Rudy Ruiz as Southern Glazer’s EVP, supplier management and business development, and EVP, emerging spirits brands, respectively. Finally, Shawn Thurman, currently president of Alliance Beverage in Arizona, will become EVP, national accounts.
