Ruben Rodriguez, Former Bacardi Chairman, Dies At 79May 9, 2016
Ruben Rodriguez, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Bacardi Ltd., died May 5 at the age of 79. Born in Havana, Cuba, Rodriguez was educated in the U.S. and worked in a variety of positions around the globe with companies including Chesebrough-Pond’s and Bristol-Myers before joining Bacardi, where he served for nearly two decades.
Rodriguez was the rum giant’s director of audit and finance from 1989-1993, then became CFO from 1993 until 2000, when he was appointed chairman and CEO. During Rodriguez’s tenure, Bacardi experienced strong growth and made key acquisitions like Grey Goose vodka and Cazadores Tequila.
Facundo L. Bacardi, who succeeded Rodriguez as Bacardi Ltd. chairman in 2005, said, “Through his drive and desire to lead change, Ruben helped shape Bacardi into the international spirits player it is today.
