•Spirits volume in control states grew 2.5% year-to-date through May, slightly outpacing a 2.2% advance during the same period last year. In value terms, the spirits category climbed 4.9% in control states through May, equaling its 2015 performance through the first five months of the year. Irish whiskey continues to be a major growth driver in control states, up 16% by volume over the past 12 months, while the largest spirits category, vodka, grew 2.4% during the same period. Meanwhile, control state wine volume was up 1.9% in the last 12 months and accelerated to a pace of 6% in May, boosted by a 7% increase in the Pennsylvania market.

•Westland Distillery, part of the Anchor Distilling portfolio, has released a Core Range Collection, a new variety pack featuring its three flagship American single malt whiskies. The triple set, which includes one 200-ml. bottle each of Westland’s American Oak, Sherry Wood and Peated single malts (all 46% abv), retails at $74.99. Founded in Seattle in 2010, Westland is devoted to “bringing a new and distinctly American voice to the world of single malt whiskey.”
