Breakthru Acquires Glazer’s 50% Stake In Arizona’s Alliance To Become Sole Owner

June 21, 2016

Breakthru Beverage Group has acquired the 50% interest it didn’t already own in Alliance Beverage Group, giving it full control of the Arizona operation.

Breakthru, formed last year by the merger of Charmer Sunbelt Group and Wirtz Beverage Group, purchased the remaining stake from Glazer’s, its longtime partner in Arizona. Once the deal is finalized—around July 1—Alliance will officially become Breakthru Beverage Arizona.

Alliance is one of Arizona’s leading spirits and wine distributors, with annual revenue of nearly $400 million. So too is Southern Wine & Spirits, whose Arizona operation also does around $400 million worth of business annually. Southern and Glazer’s are in the process of finalizing their merger to become Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits—a distribution giant with yearly revenue of more than $16 billion.

Meanwhile, Breakthru has also sold its minority interests in Alliance Beverage of Mississippi and Alliance Beverage of Alabama to Glazer’s. —Peter Zwiebach
