August 17, 2016•Craig and Lee Jaffurs have agreed to sell Jaffurs Wine Cellars in California’s Santa Barbara County to their neighbor Daniel Green, the winemaker and co-owner of Conarium Wines. Terms were not disclosed, but the acquisition includes the Jaffurs tasting room in downtown Santa Barbara, the winery and all inventory. Wine Spectator has more.
•Dulce Vida Tequila has extended with a new 80-proof range and two flavored entries. Dulce Vida’s new 80-proof Blanco, Reposado and Añejo ($30-$40) join the 100%-agave brand’s core 100-proof lineup ($35-$45), while Dulce Vida Lime and Grapefruit ($20) debut as the brand’s first 70-proof flavored Tequilas, made with natural fruit infusions. Established in 2009 in Austin, Texas, Dulce Vida was acquired earlier this year by Milestone Brands LLC, a company led by former Deep Eddy Vodka execs Eric Dopkins and Chad Auler. Dulce Vida is currently distributed across 17 states.
•Edinburgh is set to get its first single malt whisky distillery since the 1920s, as former Macallan master distiller David Robertson and partners are gearing up to launch Holyrood Park Distillery. Holyrood, to be based on Edinburgh’s St. Leonard’s Lane, will include a single malt distillery producing 53,000 liters of alcohol yearly, as well as a visitor center. With work starting in the coming months, Holyrood is expected to open in 2018. Robertson, a veteran of both the Macallan and Whyte & Mackay, is partnered on the project with Rob and Kelly Carpenter, founders of the Canadian branch of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
•Illinois-based importer Winesellers Ltd. is introducing a new selection of organic premium ciders under the Dunkertons brand. Based in Herefordshire, England, Dunkertons includes a medium-dry Black Fox Cider ($8 a 500-ml.), Dry Cider ($8) and Perry ($9), which will be marketed nationally through Winesellers Ltd.’s wholesaler network.
