•Mionetto USA is looking to capitalize on consumer interest in larger-format bottle sizes, launching its Prestige Gran Rosé Prosecco nationally in a 1.5-liter magnum bottle retailing at $28. Introduced in 750-ml. and 187-ml. bottles a year ago, Mionetto’s Prestige Gran Rosé has fared well out of the gate, according to CEO Enore Ceola, who adds that Mionetto will launch a “celebratory cuvée” in 2017 to mark the brand’s 130th anniversary. Prosecco continues to surge in the U.S. market, up 34% in Nielsen channels in the 52 weeks through July 16.

•Ruth Bassin, owner and president of Addy Bassin’s MacArthur Beverages in Washington, D.C., passed away on August 21. She was 89. Bassin founded MacArthur in 1957 with her husband, Addy, who died in 1986. Along with Calvert Woodley and Schneider’s of Capitol Hill, MacArthur stands at the top tier among wine and spirits retailers in the nation’s capital, with a focus on high-end wine and a clientele that has always included famous names in politics and journalism. Bassin was honored by SND’s sister publication Market Watch as Market Watch Leader in 2005, and she won the Market Watch Leaders Alumni Award for Community Service in 2009.
