Craft Distiller High West Is Up For Sale

September 12, 2016

An auction process has begun for High West Distillery, one of the country’s leading craft spirits players. Industry sources say multiple suitors are involved in the bidding for High West, including Pernod Ricard.

Founded in 2004 and based in Park City, Utah, High West sold a total of 50,000 cases in 2015 and is projected to reach 70,000 cases this year, according to Impact Databank. Its brand portfolio is led by Rendezvous rye ($59.99 a 750-ml.), Double rye ($34.99), American Prairie Bourbon ($34.99) and Campfire whiskey ($64.99). The company also offers limited-edition releases that generate huge enthusiasm among craft spirits aficionados.

High West made its name largely as a non-distiller producer, procuring whiskies from third parties including MGP Ingredients in Indiana and Sazerac’s Barton 1792 distillery in Kentucky. Last year, the company opened a new distillery at Blue Sky Ranch in Wanship, Utah, with a potential capacity of 200,000 cases a year. —David Fleming
