Market Watch Leaders Alumni Honored For Best Marketing, Best Website And Community Service

September 19, 2016

The Market Watch Leaders Awards Dinner last week honored three Leaders Alumni with accolades for Best Marketing, Best Website and Community Service.

The Leaders Alumni Award for Best Marketing was won by 2012 Market Watch Leader Ryan Maloney of Julio’s Liquors in Westborough, Massachusetts. Julio’s is among New England’s most progressive retailers, and Maloney is widely viewed as a retailing visionary. His stores are renowned for their product exclusives and varied, esoteric selection. Maloney hosts a steady stream of in-store events, holds a major annual whisk(e)y festival, writes a column in a regional magazine and co-hosts the radio show “It’s the Liquor Talking.” He also makes full use of his website, blog, app, podcasts and all social media.

The Leaders Alumni award for “Best Website” went to 1989 Leader Jack Farrell, Jr. of Minneapolis-based Haskell’s. Farrell has been in the online game for two decades, and has consistently kept pace with evolving technologies. This past summer, the 12-unit Haskell’s unveiled an extensively revamped website that’s focused on mobile functionality. The new site can intersect with shoppers using any device, and also remembers visitors’ past purchases and offers customer discounts based on shopping patterns.

Denver, Colorado-based Argonaut Wine & Liquor won the Leaders Alumni Award for Community Service. Argonaut’s 1986 Leader Hank Robinson and 2010 Leader Ron Vaughn were honored for the family’s long-standing tradition of serving others and improving their community. Remarkably, this year Argonaut is supporting more than 100 non-profits—including schools, churches, synagogues, health organizations and cultural institutions. Robinson, Vaughn and their family members also give their own time at a camp for disabled children and adults, and are involved in Arapoe House, an organization that helps people with drug and alcohol addiction.
