eBay Ramps Up Wine Presence Through New Partnership With WineDirect

February 8, 2017

E-commerce giant eBay is expanding its eBay Wine marketplace through a new partnership with direct sales service provider WineDirect. The tie-up will bolster eBay Wine’s selection of red, white, sparkling and rosé wines from small and mid-size wineries, as well allow shoppers to send bottles of wine as gifts. Some of the wineries with inventory on eBay through WineDirect include Wattle Creek, Buena Vista Winery and JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset, among many others.

eBay launched its eBay Wine offshoot last April, partnering with mobile delivery platform Drync to offer more than 10,000 wines from 30 countries. Champagne and red wine are among the top two most-searched terms on eBay Wine, while the site’s top selling category is Pinot Noir from California. Later this month, eBay’s wine category plans to expand to Germany.

“We’ve been encouraged by the interest shown by our customers since we launched the wine category last year,” Alyssa Steele, divisional merchandising manager of Home and Garden at eBay, told SND. “Our marketplace offers a wide selection of inventory at great prices—from everyday wines up to unique collectibles. Some of our top searched wine-related terms on eBay are Dom Perignon, Opus One and Moët, so we’re finding that people are often searching for higher-end products.” —Christina Jelski
